ACTION-Grid is a Specific International Cooperation Project on healthcare information systems based on Grid capabilities and Biomedical Informatics (BMI) and nanoinformatics between Latin America, the Western Balkans and the European Union (EU). This project is supported by the EU's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7-ICT) with funding totalling some €1 million. ACTION-Grid started 1st June 2008 and will run for a period of 18 months.
The members of the consortium have published pioneering scientific papers in Grid and BMI areas. They participated in the BIOINFOMED and SYMBIOMATICS studies that contributed significantly to the last two FPs of the EC.
ACTION-Grid aims to multiply previous outcomes in Grid and BMI and disseminate these outcomes in Latin America, the Western Balkans and North Africa.
Action-Grid expected impact expanded previous initiatives to create a common health information infrastructure in Europe, and extended to other regions. It aims to enhance cooperation between research centers, universities, hospitals, SMEs, public entities, and others and expand the impact of EC achievements in Grid and BMI to researchers, educators, and health practitioners world-wide.
